I suspect that very few RC campaigns run all the way to 36 th level, but for those that do, gaining access to 6 th level spells is no joke. This spellcasting scales, so that the paladin casts spells as a 12 th-level cleric when she reaches the 36 th level of fighter. They do still get clerical spells and can heal that way, of course, if they have a Wisdom score of 13+.I am pretty sure this is literally the only version of the Paladin I have ever seen (not counting anti-paladins of one kind of another) that does not have an ability specifically called lay on hands. The real surprise is that lay on hands isn’t one of them. The Paladin gains a number of magical class features and restrictions: If not, the fighter is a “traveling fighter,” and might be a Paladin if she takes vows with a Lawful clerical order, an Avenger if she takes vows with a Chaotic clerical order, or a Knight if she does neither. The first decision point is whether or not the fighter can secure a land grant if so, she becomes part of the ruling nobility and might advance that way. In the RC, a 9 th level fighter might go one of four different ways. It is something more like a fighter-only Prestige Class. The Paladin of the RC has very little in common with even its OD&D predecessor. (Part Eins, Zwei, Drei, Vier, Fünf, Sechs) On the other hand, D&D has a long and nuanced history, including a lot of offshoots, clones, retroclones, demi-clones… so today I’m tackling three of those not-quite-mainline iterations: the Rules Cyclopedia (OD&D), Pathfinder (3.x, but honestly if you read gaming websites you don’t need me to tell you this), and 13 th Age (4e…ish).
TRIBAL WARS PALADIN WEAPONS SERIES
(channel alt.To be honest, when I started this series I never would have guessed that I would need seven articles to talk about one class. (smite alt.)grant allies smite bonus damage (smite alt.)immediate dimensional anchor vs. LoH uses: 30 (10 level +8cha +2gear +10 feat) Mercies: fatigue, sickened, dazed, nauseated, staggeredĮxample bond (weapon-can be melee or ranged): +4 holyĮxample bond (armor): +3 medium fortification Traits: reactionary / magical knack (paladin) Str/str/cha/cha/wis (level), +6 all (gear), +4 str/cha (book/wish) LG tiefling (demon-spawn) paladin (oath of vengeance + against fiends) 20 that way you still get the flavor, you could even present yourself as a paladin (it seem mostly like one in play) but you'd likely end up with a better functioning character.
TRIBAL WARS PALADIN WEAPONS CODE
If you're really just after the flavor why not think about getting that flavor with slightly different mechanics? you could build the character as a LG warpriest, cleric, or inquisitor who always strives to follow the paladins code (and maybe has even taken vows in some religious order where nearly everyone is a pally). even then you can only do it once/day and it doesn't do enough damage to significantly alter the course of combat.Īrcane strike isn't usually a great choice for pallies but since you can't swift action heal yourself (and have a racial SLA that scales with level) its a decent option for you. the only benefit for radiant charge is that it isn't limited to evil- but that means the only time its worthwhile is when you really need to hit a big bad neutral guy as hard as you can, and have the opportunity to charge. using OoV to trade them for smites is much much better. even for damphir (which is the worst race for a pally) sacrificing all you LoH for a couple extra d6 damage on one charge attack will almost never be worth it. I am considering, the Life Dominant soul feat but am not sold on it completely. I'm using the moroi subtype as well.įor backstory she worships Erastil, but also throws a few hail Sarenrae every now and then out of respect to a paladin who saved her. I want to mix flavor with SOME optimization. I'm taking the Oath of Vengeance so channel positive isnt a factor. The bite is more flavor than anything else. I was thinking of getting a bite feat for level one then all dps feats. but I do want to be focused on doing so much damage quickly as to avoid a building bloodlust for her. I have a dhampir boon and I just like the flavor of a dhampir paladin, i dont care if she can't use lay on hands for herself. I figure vital strike is a must as well, but beyond this I don't really know.īTW this would be for pfs. Radiant charge was good cuz it would let me swap out lay on hands for more damage that bypasses DR without smiting or requiring the target to be evil. What feats are good for a dps paladin? I know Power Attack, and I was thinking of focusing on crit and getting a +X Keen falchion.
